Understanding the problem of male domestic abuse

Male domestic abuse is a significant yet often under-recognised issue, affecting a substantial number of men each year. Despite the prevalence, social stigmas and stereotypes frequently prevent male victims from seeking the help they need. 695,000 men

According to the Office for National Statistics, an estimated 695,000 men in the UK experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2020. This highlights the significant need for support services tailored to male victims.

1 in 3 victims

A survey by the Mankind Initiative found that 1 in 3 victims of domestic abuse is male. Despite this, male victims are often overlooked and under-supported.

49% increase

Between 2018 and 2020, there was a 49% increase in calls to helplines from male victims of domestic abuse, illustrating a growing awareness and willingness to seek help among men.
